Aghios Nikolaos Town

The capital of the prefecture of Lassithi is the lovely coastal little town of Aghios Nikolaos, a Cosmopolitan resort. Welcomes thousands of visitors annually with its picturesque port where little fishing boats are moored and the famous landmark of the city, the small lake known as Voulismeni, located in the town center, at the foot of the cliffs, with a circular shape and a diameter of 137 m. According to mythology, the goddess Athena used to take her bath in this lake. Today it is an especially picturesque site surrounded by many cafeterias, charming coffeehouses and tavernas. A walk around the shops is an enjoyable experience. In the many stores the visitor can find a wide selection of traditional Cretan artwork, copies of pieces from different archaeological museums, jewellery, and embroidery. Aghios Nikolaos is the ideal place for resting and for having a good time all year round, suitable for all ages, combining the traditional hospitality with the authenticity of the genuine Cretan way of life.
