Houdetsi Village

The village of Houdetsi is located at a distance of 20 klm south of the Heraklion. It is a traditional village of great beauty, which continuously grows and has many buildings of traditional architecture. This magical scenery is completed with a fountain that is located in the centre of the village. The main occupation of the inhabitants is the production and cultivation of olive trees and vineyards. Houdetsi is famous for its grapes. Evidences from the excavations and the findings in the area denounce that this settlement should have been existed during the Minoan area or even before that. According to a legend, the name “Houdetsi” was derived from the first ruler of the area, Houndio.
